yes, i could kill whitney for showing me this song. i've been depressed for 2 years over it. but i play it every couple of weeks. its great in its own depressive betrayal kind of way.
First, thank you Stacy "What's a Blog?" G, for pointing me here. I know why she did it, too.
I really listened to the lyrics of this song for the first time a little while back. Always just thought it was about a cheating woman. Didn't realize it was about a cheating woman and her dying invalid veteran husband until that day. I then went to S"WaB"G to ask if she had ever really listened to the song. It was a sad day for us both.
Honestly, I got to know this song on 8-track when I was really little. A few years ago, I went back and looked at it again and was stunned to realize how little I had understood it earlier. I was watching one of those country collection informercials last night and he was on singing Lucille. I remembered how amazing the song was and thought I would share, honestly thinking everyone who read the post would go "pffft" and ignore the link.
I guess it's just one of those songs. There have been a couple that I remember from when I was little that I rediscovered new meaning later. For the life of me, though, I can't remember them no.
I had Kenny's Greatest Hits on LP only, but I did have both of John Denver's greatest hits collections on 8 track. Good times.

Brett, what inspired you to post about this?
